Geof. Entertains My Laurel Class

I hate same-o, same-o lessons when I teach. I am always trying to think of a hook, something that they will think back to during the week, not just forget as they go out the door. This week was easy! The lesson was on missionary work.
I used Elder Bednar's talk, "Becoming a Missionary," Oct. 2005 General Conference. He says, "the single most important thing you can do to prepare for a call to serve is to BECOME a missionary long before you go on a mission.....It is possible for a young man to GO on a mission and not BECOME a missionary."
In Oct. we will have housed the missionaries for 4 years. It has been so much fun to have them in our home. We have had both Sisters and Elders. Which has been interesting! We currently have a missionary serving a "foreign speaking" mission. He is from El Salvador and has only spoken English for 4 months. We have seen the gift of tongues for sure.
Oh, how I wish you could all see the video Geof. and his companion, Elder Wilden made! What was the most fun was watching my Laurels. They were laughing so hard! I made them work, not just watch. They had to tell me all the things they were learning about becoming a good missionary! The video goes through their day from alarm to multiple door approaches. It ends with my sweet little 19 year old Geof. bearing his testimony.
His big brother Adam trained him well on Geof.'s mini mission to Detroit. Brind and Ellynn followed in their footsteps and I can hardly wait to go! My problem will be I never get to be the senior companion.....always "the backer!" Oh Well,
Love You All, Le Anne

End of the school year scramble

There are only 4 more school days left for Sierra and Kaia. These past few weeks have been busy with:
school plays

field trips

field days

Then Adam buys a motorcycle and a sail boat in a 24 hour period. Can you go through a mid-life-crisis at 34? Isn't that a sign?

mmmmm.... meatloaf

So Meags says we're having meatloaf sandwiches the other day. I laugh cause she pulls out this crusty bread, but what I'm seeing in my mind is the corner-diner style of meatloaf sandwich, like this...

yeeech.

But, true to form she busts out something amazing.

My stomach thinks my wife is incredible.

Ruby is 2!

Ruby was not interested in a photo shoot this morning. She has a little tutu on to go with her shirt. Adam bought her this purple, hippo purse in Roosevelt. She loves it! Tonight is Sierra's 2nd grade play about insects then we are coming back home for "dirt" cake. Lots of fun, except Adam leaves today and is going to miss the party :(

Here is the magnet board he surprised me with on mother's day. He made it himself, it reads "If I just lay here, will you lie with me and just forget the world." A picture of a grass hut with palm trees is in the corner. I love it!

Mother's Day

Whoosh! It's over! Can you feel the universe shifting back into the natural order of things? You have to love Mother's Day! Everyone trying to serve Mom and Mom patiently trying to be served! Our ward finally got the joke and gave us candy bars instead of plants. (I've always had candy bar envy on Father's Day.) It was great!
I got spoiled! Ellery tried to do all the honey dos he could possibly fit into a Saturday. We got all the pots planted and worked in the yard. My idea of a good day!
Thank you so much for the beautiful Quilt Book! Mindi, thank you for all your hard work! I loved it! My goal in life is to fill the pages with all the quilts and the pictures of the cute little kids they are for! I do love it!

Meags and I convinced Cory and Ellery that what we really wanted for our Mother's Day dinner was---for Meagan's part, cold cereal. She bought 2 different kinds of Crapton Crunch, peanut butter and regular. We supplied the Chocolate Cheerios and milk. I chose the large sushi platter from Costco. If only I could load pictures onto this computer---It was great! I didn't care for the Chocolate Cheerios with the sushi but Meags did like the Crapton Crunch/sushi combo.

Having eliminated most of the fuss and bother of a big dinner we could then concentrate on a nap for Meags followed by games and I got to show Jack that you truly can tie a bowline with one hand and how to tie a double tautline so they could climb up the rope onto the deck, which is another whole story! They all lived!

I had a wonderful Day! I got to talk to each of my children before we turned over our phones to the missionaries so they could call their moms. That is why I missed your call Mike. Sorry but I did get your "Happy Birthday" message and I appreciate you wishing me yet another great year! What were you drinking for Sunday dinner?

The greatest tribute I have as a mom is the lives of each of our children. They are so good and wise--They all had the good sense to marry well. God is so grateful that He has their homes where the gospel is lived and taught to send His precious spirits. Our grandchildren truly are those precious spirits. Yesterday I got to watch Jack pass the sacrament in his new suit for the 1st time--awesome! He was so cute! Oh wait, I mean handsome! I wish we could have you all close. The time goes so quickly....

I remember my mom sitting down next to me long enough for the iron to heat up. It was never long enough! I loved when she would sometimes go for walks with us at the end of the day. We thought it was weird because she would eat the wild aspargras that grew along the roadside. One time she noticed an ant on the end of the stalk she had just bitten. She just laughed and said she wondered how many ants she had eaten. She also asked us which color we thought God loved best--blue or green? I still miss my Mom!

It was so fun to see most of you last Sunday. Sorry we missed you Lindsey by only a day. You are all such a cute group. Love you, Mom/Aunt Le Anne

To My Gentle, Loving, Mom on Mother's Day!

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist this picture. Mom, I love you. I love your sense of adventure, your undying energy, your absolute devotion to the well being of each of your children. You are an amazing lady and I am so grateful that you are ours! I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!

The Weekend

Saturday morning was Mormon Helping Hands. Mike was in charge of the project for the two Monterey Wards. Jane had a major play rehearsal, Sawyer and Ellie had a babysitter since Mike and I were going to be busy coordinating everyone, that left Sadie on her own helping with her two well gloved hands.

Yes, she was adorable and actually worked very hard. I can't quite hide my astonishment. The project went really well. We had beautiful weather and Mike had everything very well organized.

I came home and went to a baby shower with all of my favorite people, ate delicious food, relaxed, and then came home so that we could go pick up Mike's bib number for the Big Sur Marathon.

Mike, Sawyer, Sadie, Ellyn and I walked a few blocks through downtown Monterey and visited the fitness expo, collected Mike's stuff, and then we made a little trip to Trader Joe's so Mike could pick out what he wanted to eat after his marathon.

This is Mike and Jason at 5:30am. The marathon was a down and back this year because of a road washout so there was nowhere to cheer along the route. I realized as I was driving down to the finish line that Mike had completely over estimated how long it would take him and that I was going to miss the finish. Sure enough, right at the corner by the Finish Line my phone rang. It was my friend Jenny's phone and I knew she had done the relay. It was Mike, he was done. He finished a much harder, very hilly course, on a hot day almost a full half hour faster than our St. George Marathon. I'm so proud of him- and a little jealous. I was bummed not to see his actual finish. He didn't care. He was just happy to be done. I picked him up, he came home, showered, and left for church with us a half an hour later. Crazy! Yeah, my husband is awesome! As a side note both the Bishop's counselors were gone so he asked Mike to sit on the stand. He didn't look it but Mike said he was dying he was so hot and his leg was locking up:-). Maybe punishment for running on Sunday.
